General Appearance
Workmanlike, compact, lively, squarely built.

Characteristics
Energetic, intelligent, hunt-point-retriever.

Temperament
Affectionate and eager to please.

Head and Skull
Medium length, rounded with the median line slightly visible. Stop well defined but not too deep. Occiput not pronounced but can be felt. Muzzle about two-thirds the length of the skull, tapered but not snipy. Nostrils open and well shaped.

Eyes
Expressive, brown to dark brown in harmony with coat colour, never light or hard in expression. Well set in.

Ears
Drop ear, set high, rather short, lightly fringed and vine-shaped covered with slightly wavy hair.

Mouth
Jaws strong with a perfect regular scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws. Lips tight, upper lip slightly overlapping lower.

Neck
Medium length, clean and well set into shoulders.

Forequarters
Sloping and well set on shoulders. Forelegs straight with good muscle. Moderately well boned. Feathered.

Body
Chest deep, descending to the level of elbow. Ribs well rounded. Back short with loin short and strong with slight slope from withers to croup and from croup to hindquarters.

Hindquarters
Strong and broad, flanks well rounded, moderate bend of stifle. Hocks well let down. Feathered to mid-thigh.

Feet
Small, compact with a little hair between toes.

Tail
Docked: Naturally tailless, short or customarily docked. Carried level with back.

Undocked: Carried level with back

Gait/Movement
Brisk, short striding, straight and true.

Coat
Body coat rather flat, dense, fairly fine and slightly wavy.

Colour
Orange/white, liver/white, black/white, tricolour, or roan of any of these colours. Nose dark or harmony with coat colour.

Size
Ideal height: dogs: 48-50 cms (19-20 ins); bitches: 47-49 cms (18½-19½ ins).

Faults
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.

Note
Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
